*Special Texas Bamboo Society event * Saturday, March 1, 2008 - Bamboo Grove Grooming at Porter, Texas
(Note: Rain date is Saturday, March 8, 2008)
The Texas Bamboo Society invites and welcomes all to come to our Grove Clearing at Porter, Texas, the 1st of March, starting at about 9 AM. Porter, Texas is just north of Houston off of Highway 59.
We will be there most of the day, so there is NO way you can be late.
This is one of the last, large, untamed groves of Bamboo in Texas (that we are aware of) and has about 20 acres of Bamboo, containing about 30 species of bamboo, both running and clumping. We will be clearing a small section of the area, and everyone is welcome to take home any and all poles they want, plus dig any starts of Bamboo, for transplant, that you like. If you are planning on digging bamboo, please bring soil to replace the soil you will be hauling away. We cleared something over an acre last year, w/ about 20 folks, so "the more the merrier". You will need Gloves & clothing to be "in the jungle" and tools to whack down bamboo, some of it up to 3-4 inch in diameter. Both dead and live Boo. Chains saws, hand saws, big limb loppers, and hand clippers to de-branch poles you may be carrying home etc. See pics from the first grove grooming in 2006.
