The bamboo festival features lectures on growing and dividing bamboo, pest and disease control, landscape uses of bamboo, and what you can do with bamboo once you grow it! There will also be vendor booths of bamboo related items, along with a bamboo plant sale and a live auction on Saturday afternoon where you will get a chance to bid on some choice, hard to find bamboos. There will also be guided tours of Mercer’s bamboo plantings throughout the garden. The festival is free and open to the public. Call for reserved seating in the lectures.

2008 Schedule for the Texas Bamboo Society Meeting Days at Zilker Botanical Garden, Austin, TexasMeeting times are 10 am - 1 pm on the 3rd Saturdays in the Taniguchi Japanese Garden. Bring a saw, hand clippers and loppers and learn about taking care of the different species of bamboo as you become part of the Taniguchi Revitalization Project.

- August 23-24, 2008 - 16th Annual Texas Bamboo Festival
The 16th Annual Texas Bamboo Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 23-24, 2008 at Zilker Botanical Garden, Austin, Texas. Guest speaker, Robin McBride Scott, will conduct a workshop on Weaving a Cane Mat, using native American Bamboo that she has personally harvested, prepared and dyed. She will also do a presentation about her work with basketry and native American bamboo. Please note the workshop will be limited to 10 - 15 participants. More details and workshop fees will be posted soon. The festival will include a live plant auction on Saturday afternoon, a dinner by reservation on Saturday evening and two full days of bamboo activities with bamboo plants and crafts for sale and show.
